Peter’s cycling accident claim settles for £5,250 (Belfast)

Peter was cycling past a petrol station on a Belfast road when a motorist turned in to it, cutting across his path. Peter was struck by the car from the right hand side knocking him from his bicycle at such force that he landed on the car bonnet before rolling off. The driver of the car stopped but began to act strangely in the aftermath of the accident. After a period of 3 or 4 minutes the motorist got back in his car and drove off.

The PSNI were contacted and Peter provided a full statement to the them

As a result of this accident Peter suffered an injury to his neck, shoulder and experienced difficulties sleeping and nervous upset as a result of the accident. In addition, he suffered bruising and grazing to his right side. He attended the Royal Victoria Hospital in the aftermath of the accident for treatment.

Peter contacted Paschal O’Hare Solicitors

Peter decided to pursue a claim for compensation for the injuries that he sustained. He searched the internet for a local solicitor and having come across our large number of positive online reviews, he contacted us. We welcomed Peter as a new client and took instructions from him so that we could begin to process of claiming on his behalf.

We sought details from the PSNI who had identified the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene. We sent a letter of claim to the driver’s insurers who accepted liability for the accident. We forwarded the insurers details of the damage caused to Peter’s bicycle and a medical report that we commissioned from a consultant orthopaedic surgeon which described the extent of his injuries. The report indicated that Peter’s injuries should clear up within a year. We soon entered negotiations with the insurance provider and settled the case in the sum of £5,250 plus costs.
