Driving Danger Zones In Northern Ireland

Driving Danger Zones In Northern Ireland

While Northern Ireland is known for its picturesque landscapes and scenic drives, new data suggests that certain areas pose risks for motorists. We delve into the latest statistics to shed some light on the riskiest spots for drivers.

The Most Dangerous Areas In Northern Ireland For Drivers

The data shows that the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon region had the highest rate of motoring offenses in the past year, with 354 offenses per 10,000 people. This includes violations like speeding, mobile phone use and dangerous driving.

The Antrim and Newtownabbey council area followed close behind with 339 offenses per 10,000 people. Newry, Mourne and Down and Mid Ulster rounded out the top three most dangerous areas to drive, with 303 and 298 offenses respectively.

Belfast and Derry/Londonderry fell around the middle of the pack, while Ards and North Down saw the lowest rate of driving offenses at just 134 per 10,000 people.

Speeding Offenses Are the Most Common

While motoring offenses dropped overall compared to the previous year, speeding remained the most prevalent issue on Northern Ireland’s roads. This accounted for the bulk of the 40,335 total driving offenses in the past 12 months.

Stricter mobile phone usage laws helped decrease those offenses by 32%, but speeding continues to put drivers and pedestrians at risk across the region.
