Emily’s accident in a shop settles for £75,000 (Belfast)

Emily was involved in an accident when she was visiting a homeware shop in Belfast. She turned left on to a side aisle when her foot caught on the corner of a duvet which was overhanging a bed on a display stand and creating a hazard on the walkway. Emily fell forward onto her outstretched hands. She was in immediate significant pain.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where she was diagnosed as having suffered fractures to both wrists. She underwent surgery to both wrists and had plates and screws inserted.

Emily’s recovery following the accident was slow. Due to her fall, she lost confidence in going out unaided and the impact of the accident has a significant effect on her day-to-day life. She required constant care from family members in the immediate aftermath of the accident.

Emily reached out to our personal injury solicitors

Emily searched for the best personal injury solicitors in Belfast and contacted our firm. Liability was quickly admitted by the Insurers. A medical appointment was obtained from a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. This report concluded that our client suffered fractures to both radius.

She was initially placed in a plaster of paris, but had to undergo open reduction and internal fixation of her radial fractures with the insertion of plate and screws. It was felt that she may have ongoing pain, stiffness and reduction of grip strength going forward to some extent.

The Defendant invited negotiations. As a result of these negotiations, Emily’s case settled for £75,000.
