Patrick’s trip claim settles for £17,500 (Belfast)

Patrick was walking through the car park of a well-known Belfast shopping complex when he stepped off the footpath onto the road. His foot landing in a deep hole in the road surface causing him to trip. He fell forward onto his hands which he instinctively brought up to protect his head. Unfortunately, Patrick fractured his wrist upon impact which later required surgery.

Patrick made a good recovery

Despite his good recovery, Patrick was left with some residual discomfort and some limitation of certain activities. Shortly after, he contacted us in hopes of pursuing a claim for injury compensation.

The shopping complex denied liability of the accident on grounds of credibility. This means the defendant questioned what happened to Patrick and how he sustained his injury. In response we issued proceedings against them on our client’s behalf. We hired an engineer to assess the hole in road that caused the injury and provide us with a report to use as evidence. We also had our client examined by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hand injuries. This helped us determine the severity of the injury. Armed with this evidence the shopping complex agreed to negotiate and the case settled in the sum of £17,500.
