forklift accident in factory

Conor’s work accident settles for £650,000 (Lisburn)

Conor was involved in a work accident when he was employed as a yard foreman at a plant hire company. On the date of his accident, he was standing in the yard directing vehicular traffic when a driver of a forklift truck drove over Conor’s foot. As a result of this, he sustained a very significant, life changing injury to his foot.

He was initially taken to Antrim Area Hospital, where he was detained overnight. He underwent x-rays before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he was detained for two and a half weeks. Conor underwent surgery which involved the insertion of plates and screws for fractures to the first, second and third metatarsals.

Conor began his work accident claim by contacting Paschal O’Hare Solicitors

Conor was very concerned about his injuries. He considered his options and searched for a Personal Injury Specialist Law Firm to take on his case. Having reviewed our website, he made contact with Patrick O’Hare of this office who took his case on.

It was clear from the outset that Conor had sustained a very significant injury. Medical reports were obtained from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a sub-speciality in foot injuries. Furthermore, as a result of the accident, Conor developed significant adverse psychological sequalae.

There were concerns about Conor returning to work. It was felt by Conor’s Orthopaedic Surgeon that would not be in a position to return to a job which entailed prolonged standing. In light of this, it was necessary to obtain reports from a Care Expert. The purpose of this report was to detail the extent of care which was provided to the Plaintiff by family members from the date of accident to date and going forward.

Furthermore, given the fact that our evidence suggested that Conor was not in a position to return to his former job, it was necessary to instruct Forensic Accountants to calculate a future financial loss claim. Matters were complicated somewhat by the fact that Conor was made redundant during Covid and the Defendant was alleging that there was no future financial loss etc.

The case was prepared for trial and ultimately settled for £650,000 plus costs. Conor was pleased with this result.
