Ronnie was employed as a mill operative when he had an accident. He was standing on a steel platform emptying bags of feed through grills in the floor. Unfortunately, the safety rails at the back of the platform were missing and some feed pellets rolled onto the non-grill solid part of the platform. When Ronnie stepped on a few of these he slipped and lost his footing. He fell backwards jarring his knee and he felt a pop upon landing. He attended hospital where he was diagnosed as suffering from torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee.
Ronnie contacted Paschal O’Hare Solicitors about his work accident
We accepted Ronnie’s case and sent a letter of claim to his employer. They denied liability for the work accident and we subsequently issued legal proceedings. We sent our new client to a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in knee injuries. The expert provided us with a medical report that indicated that the tear to the ACL was due to the accident that occurred at the mill. The expert also informed Ronnie that he would require reconstructive surgery to the ligament. We contacted our client’s employer again who now indicated a willingness to settle the case. We entered negotiations and settled Ronnie’s claim in the sum of £25,000.
