Anne’s Slip and Fall Accident Settles for £27,500 (Newtownabbey)

Anne was involved in a slip and fall accident while she was a patient in a care home in Newtownabbey. Whilst she was being showered, she fell and struck her head. She suffered soft tissue injuries to her forehead and nose, as well as some cuts and bruises to her knees.

Anne, who was diagnosed with advanced dementia, saw her condition deteriorated further as a result of the accident. Her son noted a change in the way she interacted with him and appeared to not be reacting to things she would have previously.

Her family reached out to our injury solicitors

Anne’s son grew increasingly concerned about his mother’s condition. He decided to reached out to our solicitors to see how we could help.

We sent a letter of claim to the care home and their insurers admitted liability. We had reports done by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who confirmed that she suffered soft tissue injuries for a few weeks as well as a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist who confirmed that the symptoms of her dementia had been accelerated and she would have retained her level of pre-accident interaction for a period of approximately 12-18 months had it not been for the accident.

The insurers originally offered £3,500, but we rejected that and given that we were so far apart in valuation, we had to issue proceedings. Eventually, we managed to negotiate a figure with the Defence solicitors of £27,500 and this was approved by the court.
